Members of Louisville’s cycling community will bike to Lexington on Saturday for a rally and candlelight celebration in support of ailing cyclistJoe Ward, a local author and former Courier-Journal reporter.\The rally will take place about 5 p.m. outside the Markey Cancer Center, 800 Rose St., where Ward, a well-known cycling advocate, is undergoing a bone-marrow transplant, said friend and event spokesman

he group will assemble between 6:30 and 7:15 a.m. at Heine Brothers’ Coffee on Frankfort Avenue. Supporters can join anywhere along the route, including in Lexington.

Hampton, a Louisville native, is the first African American selected to represent Kentucky in the Miss USA pageant. The event will also serve as a send-off for Hampton before she departs for the 2011 Miss USA Pageant at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.The judging will be June 19, and the winner advances to the Miss Universe pageant.Beer garden todayThe Kentucky Ale Beer Garden will get the Memorial Day weekend started today.

The drinking begins at Norton Healthcare Plaza between 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. before the Zac Brown Band’s show at the KFC Yum! Center.Admission to the garden is free. The beers on offer are Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. There will also be soda and water.Food Network star Sandra Lee has a full plate of publishing projects.Hyperion and the Disney Interactive Media Group announced Wednesday that Lee has agreed to a five-book deal, including two cookbooks, an entertaining/lifestyle book and two food-themed novels, recipes included.

Lee, girlfriend of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is also working on a series of 15 online videos that will coincide with this fall’s release of her lifestyle book and first cookbook.

MSNBC’s Ed Schultz is off the air for more than a week after calling a fellow talk-show host a vulgar term.On his radio show, the liberal commentator referred to conservative host Laura Ingraham as a “right-wing slut.” He was apparently upset over her criticism of President Obama’s overseas trip.Schultz apologized on MSNBC on Wednesday to Ingraham, his family, the network and viewers for the remarkMSNBC said the network and Schultz mutually agreed on a suspension that will keep him off the air until June 6.
